He is Muhammad, the son of ^Abdullah, who is the son of ^Abdul-Muttalib, who is the son of Hashim, who is the son of ^Abdu-Manaf, from the tribe of Quraysh, salla-l-lahu ^alayhi wa sallam. He was born in Makkah in the month of Rabi^ al-Awwal, in the year of the Elephant (^amul-fil). He received the Revelation of Prophethood while he was an inhabitant of Makkah at the age of 40. He migrated to Madinah 13 years after receiving the revelation. He stayed in Madinah for 10 years, after which he, salla-l-lahu ^alayhi wa sallam, died, and was buried there in the chamber of Lady ^A’ishah, may Allah raise her rank. That is, he was buried exactly where he died, salla-l-lahu ^alayhi wa sallam.
